snorkeling equipment

The chief attraction of snorkeling is being able to observe underwater life in a natural setting without having to go deep into the ocean. It is just like swimming while wearing snorkeling equipment. In this way the person snorkeling can swim just under the water for extended periods and observe the underwater world. All he needs is a diving mask, a snorkel and swim fins. In extremely cold climate, a wetsuit might also be necessary.

The snorkel is the main tool of the snorkeler. It is a tube fitted with a mouthpiece at the lower end. Constructed of either rubber or plastic, it is used for breathing air from the water surface. It does not require training but the snorkeler should know how to swim and breathe through the snorkel. However, because it involves going into the water, basic safety should always be observed. Snorkelers are also advised never to go out on their own but should always be in the company of a ‘buddy’ or a guide.
