Monitor decompression limits in a safer and much more convenient way. Dive computers do this and more. They can also calculate the body’s nitrogen according to the diver’s depth and time. This allows for a diving profile that is much more flexible than what conventional dive tables can provide.
Modern dive computers show the current depth, maximum depth and dive time. It also records the diver’s entire information throughout the dive. The air-integrated computers have other features such as allowing the diver to set alarms and calculating time remaining for the dive based on the diver’s air consumption.
